Special occasion for Dominic’s staff

DOMINIC’S Community Centre held a night to celebrate their staff and their achievements at the Maldron Hotel in Tallaght on Friday, April 22.

The special night acknowledged all of the achievements of the members of staff who have completed modules in their training over the last two years as well as three members who graduated from college during Covid-19 restrictions and were unable to celebrate at the time.

The staff enjoyed a sit-down meal at the Maldron Hotel, followed by presentations by the Deputy Mayor to staff.

Speaking about the staff’s journeys to graduating, Eileen Keogh, supervisor at Dominic’s Community Centre said: “We are a CE Scheme, and we offer the preschool and afterschool education for children and together with that we offer the training for the staff that are on CE.

“Very often someone would come in with no formal education and they are starting from scratch. The girls that graduated at level 8, two of those came here with their junior cert and started here with their level 5 and got the experience of working with children and the training to formalise it.

“They went and did their level 6 with DDTEB and then did their degree with IT Carlow.”

Eileen explained that due to Covid-19 restrictions the graduates were unable to celebrate their achievements and this night was a way to honour them.

“We made a promise to them that when all this was over, we would have a proper celebration and that’s what last Friday night was about,” she said. “They have achieved so much and they are terrific role models for the other staff and are now mentoring those who started at the same point they started at.”
