‘Spit on the pavement in the next two years and you’ll go to jail’

A TALLAGHT man who was caught with a screwdriver and damaged a car wing-mirror got a 10-month suspended sentence in Tallaght Court.

Gavin Guerrine, aged 25, with an address at Church Grove, Aylesbury, Tallaght, had pleaded guilty to damaging a car mirror, interfering with the mechanism of a car and possession of a screwdriver for use in theft at Woodies DIY car park, Whitestown Road, Tallaght, on September 1, 2015.

Guerrine’s defence lawyer, Gabby Deane, said her client would consent to the case being dealt with in the Drugs Court.

Sergeant Michael Phelan said that in January 2011, Guerrine had been sentenced to 10 years jail with five suspended for section 4 assault.

He said that Guerrine had assaulted a man whom he believed killed his brother.

Guerrine’s counsel, Gabby Deane BL, said her client would consent to the case being dealt with in the Drugs Court. The case went to second calling. When the case wasrecalled, Judge Coughlan was told that Guerrine had been deemed not suitable for the drugs court.

He told Ms Deane: “He has a history of violence”.

Judge Coughlan sentenced Guerrine to 10 months jail, suspended for two years.

The judge told Guerrine: “Spit on a footpath in the next two years and you will go to jail for 10 months.”
