Sports clubs to benefit from new pavilion plans

By Laura Lyne

PLANS for the development of sports pavilions in Tallaght, Clondalkin and Lucan have been put to Part 8 public consultation, with the pavilions including six changing rooms, storage facilities and accessible facilities for local clubs.

The plans are for the development of sports pavilions in Dodder Valley Park on the Old Bawn Road in Tallaght, Corkagh Park near the Outer Ring Road in Clondalkin and Griffeen Valley Park in Lucan at the Lucan Leisure Centre.

All three locations will include the plans for the pavilion facilities, with a new 40 space car park being constructed at Dodder Valley Park to allow for access to the pavilion, pitches and the general park area.

The proposed Dodder Valley pavilion will be located in the area that includes the electric station and tennis courts that are currently located in the park, and close to the Tallaght to Ballyboden cycle route.

In Corkagh Park the pavilion will serve the football pitches that are located adjacent to the Outer Ring Road and will be located close and served by the existing car park.

At Griffeen Valley Park the pavilion will be located adjacent to the existing Lucan Leisure Centre, playground, tennis courts and skate park with the existing car park available for the users of the pavilion, pitches and park.

The proposed design for the pavilion developments include vandal resistant security doors and wall cladding which will be suitable for washing off or painting over graffiti, with bicycle stands included in the external works to the changing room locations.

Pedestrian surfacing will also be provided around the perimeter of the pavilions with pathways leading to the areas.

Submissions and observations on the plans will be accepted until December 18 at 4.30pm in writing to South Dublin County Council or via email to info@sdublincoco.ie.

Drawings of the proposed developments can be viewed until December 4 in County Hall in Tallaght, the Civic Offices in Clondalkin and Lucan Library located at the Lucan Shopping Centre.
