St Andrew’s delighted to receive third green flag
A LUCAN primary school is celebrating their third green flag this week, which was earned through hard work on the theme of ‘water.’
St Andrews NS said they were “delighted” to receive the flag and also to have been “chosen as one of the top schools in the country” for their work on the water theme.
During a visit to the campus, TD Emer Higgins commended the school for their actions on social media.
“Huge congratulations to the Green School Committee at St Andrews NS Lucan for raising their third Green Flag this week,” said Deputy Higgins.
St Andrew’s NS were previously awarded ‘energy’ and ‘litter and waste’ green flags.
Their Green Schools Committee has been working hard on the water theme over the past two years.
The Green-Schools Committee is made up of 10 pupils, one from each class from 2nd class up to 6th class.
They meet every Monday at 1:50pm and the children all have different roles on the committee such as litter wardens, water wardens/leak detectives, energy wardens.
St Andrews have a rain-water harvester installed in the roof of the school building, which is used for toilet cisterns in the school, saving water.
The committee came up with an extensive action plan for 2023/34 to cut water usage, and achieved their goals, which are listed on the school’s website.
