THE time has come to paint Tallaght green as more than 500 participants prepare to take part in the community parade this St Patrick’s Day.

Starting at 1.30pm, the parade route will be the same as last year, and will leave TU Dublin – Tallaght campus (IT Tallaght), travel down the Old Blessington Road, along Main Street and take a left onto the Greenhills Road before returning to the college campus.

Spectators can stand along the route on the Old Blessington Road, Main Street and Greenhills Road (as far as the entrance to the college).

Public toilets will be located inside the main gates of St Mary’s Priory on Main Street, including Mobiloo, a public toilet designed by people with disabilities for people with disabilities.

To facilitate the St Patrick’s Day parade, a number of roads will be closed in the Tallaght area from 12.30pm to 3pm this Sunday, March 17.

These roads include, Old Blessington Road from the Belgard Road to the junction with Main Street and Main Street, from its junction with the Old Blessington Road to its junction with Greenhills Road.

The Greenhills Road from the junction with Main Street to Airton Road will also be closed and the Old Bawn Road from its junction with the N81 to Tallaght Main Street.

Members of the organising committee have told The Echo that the response this year has been bigger than last year, with more than 500 participants expected to take part.

Two pipe bands have also been secured for the day, Tallaght-based troupe, the Laurence O’Toole pipe band and the West Lothian Pipe Band, which is flying over from Scotland.

Tallaght Person of the Year Gar Tyrell and Young Carer of the Year and Tallaght resident Shauna Tighe will lead the parade.

Committee member Sharon Byrne told The Echo that the parade will go ahead if it rains, and for further information and updates visit the St Patrick’s Day Tallaght Parade 2019 Facebook.
