Starlight – Reggae rhythms with a traditional feel

A band led by Tallaght musician Shane Ó Fearghail have released their new single, ‘Starlight’, which deftly combines reggae rhythms with a traditional Irish feel.

The track is the latest single from the Vienna-based band Shane Ó Fearghail & The Host, with the Balrothery musician always ensuring that his Celtic heritage is reflected in his music.

‘Starlight’ is the third release from the band’s upcoming album, which promises to be an involving, genre-spanning collection of songs.

Explaining the idea behind ‘Starlight’, Shane said: “‘Starlight’ embodies the thinking behind this new record.

“An exploration of songs and styles, that stems from the writer’s own personal journey, to the root of the music.

“It represents a collective spirit, from past to present – not just in lyric but also in sound.

“When people from Ireland and Scotland were planted in the Caribbean in the mid-1600’s, they brought with them many of their traditions. Celtic music was just one. ‘Starlight’ embraces that idea.”

‘Starlight’ is out now, and the video is available on YouTube.
