OutWall shines a light on the barriers within our urban landscapes, encouraging audiences to delve into and move through new spaces as they follow the performers.
This event is the first Public Art Dance Commission arising from the Outdoor Public Spaces Scheme Chamber Square funded by the Department of Tourism Culture Arts Gaeltacht Sports and Media and South Dublin County Council.
The Scheme supported an architectural intervention to adapt the entrance to Chamber Square to unlock year-round cultural programming potential, and to make Chamber Square a welcoming and inclusive space.
The proposal was informed by Reimagine Tallaght-Melt the Walls, a research project from Creative Ireland South Dublin and the Irish Architecture Foundation using creative strategies and architectural interventions, to find a way to better connect people, place and cultural institutions, through the activation of Chamber Square.
The overall reimagining and expansion of Tallaght Town Centre, supported by the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF) and South Dublin County Council (SDCC), included significant upgrades to Chamber Square.
Originally envisioned as a shared space between four important public venues, the library, theatre, arts centre, and county hall, the area now fosters vibrant cultural interactions and community engagement.
This space was envisaged as the intersection of these vibrant cultural uses- and an opportunity for overlap and synergies.
However, over time the space had become worn and lacking in opportunities for these important connections.
