A THIEF who stole a bicycle without a chain or pedals from Tallaght Garda station was fined €200 by Tallaght Court.

Martin Comerford had been given the opportunity by the court to pay €200 to charity and he would receive the Probation Act.

Comerford, aged 34, with an address at Knockmore Green, Tallaght, had pleaded guilty to stealing a bicycle from Tallaght Garda Station on November 2, 2014.

The bike had no chain or pedals, the court had heard.

He had told Judge Reilly that he had taken the bicycle because he had seen it left at the back of the station.
Comerford had got as far as the front gate.

He had told Judge Reilly that he had not realised that the bike didn’t have a chain.

Comerford’s solicitor, Michael Hennessy, said his client had €100. He told Judge Reilly that she had dealt with the case in a sympathetic manner and asked her for a further four weeks for Comerford to come up with the remaining €100.

Judge Reilly said Comerford had since May to come up with the €200. She said she would deal with the case. Sergeant Michael Ahern told the judge that she had made a default on the order.

Convicting, Judge Reilly fined Comerford €200.
