Stolen car rammed into front gates of primary school and set alight

A STOLEN car was rammed into the front gates of a primary school in Ballyfermot and set alight – amid concerns about increased anti-social activity in the estate.
The incident occurred on Thursday night (February 21) outside the locked front gates of St Louise’s National School on Drumfinn Road, during the mid-term break.

A Garda spokesperson said they are investigating the unauthorised taking of a car from the Croftwood Gardens area of Ballyfermot on the date in question at approximately 9pm.
“The car was found burnt out shortly after. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing,” said the spokesperson.
One local resident told The Echo they were “concerned about the amount of cars being burnt out on lower Drumfinn Road.”
“This area of Ballyfermot is normally so settled, nothing much ever happens, but this is the third incident since January, and second in two weeks,” said the resident.
“As a local resident I am appalled. Local TD’s and councillors have been very quiet on the matter. We were promised CCTV at California Hills. Before it was fly tipping, but Christ, stolen cars burnt out in broad daylight takes the biscuit.”
A spokesperson for Ballyfermot Garda Station said: “AGS are fully aware of an increase in anti-social activity in the Drumfinn and surrounding areas. We are endeavouring to combat this activity by increasing patrols.
“We ask for the publics’ assistance in reporting all anti-social activities. Never assume that someone else will call the gardai. It has been discovered that such occurrences happen and nobody calls the gardai, assuming someone else will bother, with the result that a number of such crimes go unreported and therefore undetected. Take a pro-active interest in your community and help combat anti-social behaviour.”
