THE WORK of student volunteers from Caritas College in Ballyfermot and Priory Youthreach in Tallaght was recognised last Thursday at the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP) Young SVP East Region Youth Day 2019.
The students from Tallaght and Ballyfermot were among over 300 students from SVP’s East Region who attended the Youth Day, the theme of which was ‘United in Head and Heart’, and participants created displays of their work, gave presentations and networked with other young volunteers.
During the school year, the students who were involved in the Young SVP programme carried out a range of actions and projects to benefit their communities, covering topics such as food poverty, homelessness, climate justice, kindness, equality and mental health.
The young people said that taking part in the programme was an experience they would never forget, and that they had learned more about issues in their community.
The issues they learned about during the Young SVP programme included how to listen to others, how to contribute their ideas, how to be organised and how to help others.
SVP member Nessan Vaughan told the group: “The creativity and effort you have put in this year is overwhelming.
“You should all be very proud of yourselves for the work you have done to make your communities more just and fair places.”
The ‘United in Head and Heart’ event was a celebration of the hard work and dedication of Young SVP volunteers in Dublin, Wicklow and Kildare.
