Students and staff school Colour Run raises €3,800 for children’s hospice

THE staff and students of Citywest Educate Together National School recently held a vibrant colour run for charity, where they raised €3,800 for children’s hospice LauraLynn.

The Colour Fun Run took place on Tuesday, June 25, after the school’s student body and council collaborated to come up with the idea for the event and selected LauraLynn as their charity.

Alongside the main event of the colour run, which saw the participants get doused with colourful powder before running, there was also music and an inflatables course.

Martha Whelan, a third class teacher from Citywest ETNS, told The Echo: “The atmosphere in the school was truly electric during the colour run.

“Although it was quite a rainy day, that did not put a dampener on anybody’s spirits, in fact, it probably added to the camaraderie people were feeling.

“Everybody was in great form and got stuck into the event.

“We had a brilliant group of parent volunteers who kindly took time out of their busy schedules to come and support us on the day.

“They worked with the staff to run the obstacle course and manage the colour powder check points.”

The children themselves also shared their enthusiasm about how the colour run went, with fourth class pupil Kristiana remarking, so well including staff, children and the group of parents who volunteered their time to help on the day, we send you all a massive thank you!

“It was very, very fun!”.

Third class pupil Alekss said: “I loved doing the whole event and it felt really special because we never usually get to do something like this in school.”

Marcel, also in third class, said: “The best part I’d say was when you were in the middle of the obstacle course and you got splashed by powder, and I liked the hoops.”

The Colour Fun Run raised €3,800 for LauraLynn, to the delight of the school community.

“We are blown away with the final amount and are very proud of our school community,” said Ms Whelan.

“We want to send a massive heartfelt thank you to all our school community.

“To those who donated, spoke about this event and to those who made the event run “We are so proud of our wonderful community.

“The children are chuffed with the amount of money that we raised and hopefully it will help them see how much of a difference they can make to their community.

“We hope that the money raised will go to good use in LauraLynn, helping children and their families in times of need.

“It was wonderful to work with LauraLynn and to meet and talk to members of their team.

“It felt very special for our school to support the charity and for the children in our school to be able to help their peers.”
