Students set to make Mark at F1 Schools National Final

By Thomas Cox

A team of students from St Marks Community School in Tallaght have entered the F1 in Schools National Final Competition that will take place from April 19 to 23.

The competition involves each team producing a computer aided design car and getting it printed to a physical form, which is then raced against other teams down a 20-meter track, fuelled by CO2 gas canisters.

The students are Katherine Amusan, Nikita Leonkins, Jagoda Ennis, Klaudiusz Zakowany, and Jack Dunne.

They have named themselves Studyclix Racing and only formed their team in October 2020 and have worked extremely hard to enter the competition.

The team at St Mark’s will have to create two ten-page portfolios, one on the engineering of the car and one on enterprise.

They also must perform a 10-minute verbal presentation to the judges on the progress they have made.

So far, the team have submitted and passed their five-page proposal and performed on the radio.

Each team must learn to communicate with companies and get helpful business insight and sponsorship, giving them a glance into the real business world, as well as practising marketing of their own team.

The students themselves have said how grateful they are for the experience and that none of them knew much about F1 before they formed the team.

Despite this, they said that: “Anyone can and should participate in this competition, whether they have an interest for F1 or know nothing about it. It’s all about the experience, the excitement, friendships and fun.

“We are now working towards doing well at the National competition with the support of our teachers- Thomas Jackman and Gemma Fay.

“Our team helps out in our different roles and makes sure everyone is working towards our goals.”
