Students sing The Climb: Miley Cyrus cover has been viewed over 15,000 times

A project by a Lucan singing teacher – featuring 21 of her students – has been gaining traction online, as at the time of going to print their cover of Miley Cyrus’s ‘The Climb’ has been viewed over 15,000 times.
Lisa Price decided to organise the project for her students as a way to lift their spirits and show their talent after many months of adjusting to their singing classes being held online, and the abrupt changes to their lives as a result of the pandemic.
All of the singers recorded their parts remotely and then sent them to Lisa, who then edited and co-produced the material with Graham Watson from FloodPlain Studios.
“I picked ‘The Climb’ because of the words and the uplifting message of the song about perseverance,” Lisa told The Echo.
“The students kept going right the way through the pandemic, even when all of their classes had to go online.
“I think doing the song really helped the students’ wellbeing. I think it created a connection through music, and made them all feel that they were a part of something bigger.”
The performers all took part in the launch of the video on Facebook Live last month, and since then the video and the song has been watched by thousands and has been added to the playlist for Sing Ireland’s National Singing Week.
“We’ve received messages from people all over the world about the impact the song has had on them,” added Lisa.
“They said that they’ve found solace and hope in the video – it’s been remarkable.”
The students’ performance also has a particular resonance at a time when live events are at a standstill, and Lisa said that working on the cover was an important vehicle for her students’ creativity.
“With everything being cancelled, I think it’s important to make sure that creativity keeps flowing, and I think this helped my students to get their creative juices flowing,” she said.
