Suburban Picnic – St Mark’s GAA hosts community wellness festival

A FREE wellness festival called Suburban Picnic, which is all about connecting and promoting a positive mental health, is being held at McGee Park this Saturday, July 23.

Run as part of the #OneGoodClub mental health awareness initiative, St Mark’s GAA has organised Suburban Picnic, an open festival which consists of free events for all the family.

Starting with a Sound Bath at 11.30am, Zen Movement will then take to the stage with family yoga before Tallaght Leisure Centre run a fitness class and Shauna Finn gets everybody moving to music.

Bingo with a twist will kick off at 3.30pm before live music courtesy of Templeogue-based Good Vibes Ukulele Group help cap off proceedings with a singsong.

“We have been taking part in the five-step youth mental health awareness programme, organising events every week for the last 10-weeks,” says Denise Paisley, One Good Club project team leader at St Mark’s.

“Each event correlates with the framework known as the ‘five a day for your mental health’, and the final theme is connect.

“Through Suburban Picnic, we are connecting everyone through a free family wellness festival that will promote all five things that can be done for your mental health.

“It’s gearing up to be an amazing day, a tremendous amount of work has gone into the organising of this flagship event, and we can’t wait to see everyone there.”

Outside of the main stage, there is set to be stalls and tents set up around the festival with South Dublin County Mobile Library also scheduled attend and a signed Kilkenny hurl up for grabs.

Suburban Picnic runs from 11am to 5pm on Saturday, June 23, at McGee Park in Tallaght.
