Excitement is building for this year’s Tallafest, which will take place in Tallaght village this Saturday – offering fun and family-friendly activities for people of all ages and abilities.

The annual festival, which is organised by Tallaght Community Council (TCC) will this year be opened by the Sonna Samba Band and the current Tallaght Person of the Year, Gar Tyrell.

The newly formed Tallaght Tidy Towns will be launched during the festival in the grounds of TU Dublin-Tallaght Campus at 1.30pm with a ‘seed-bombing’ – where seeds will be thrown or dropped in the grounds.

A host of new events and displays will be featured at the festival, including a 100-year-old tram from the National Transport Museum that will take pride of place outside Molloys, a display of vintage fire engines, and a Toyota motor hall.

A seniors and inclusion hub – with former Tallaght Person of the Year, Sinéad Tighe, and Coach Approach’s Lee Moroney at the helm – will have events for all ages and abilities, including art classes, dancing, gentle exercise and a baking competition.

For the little ones, there will be a kids’ zone soft-play area in the grounds of TU Dublin-Tallaght Campus, and there will be a nature zone with an agri-aware farm.

A history lecture about Tallaght families involved in World War II will take place in St Maelruain’s Church at 2pm, while there will also be a drumming circle, and a pop-up Gaeltacht with Gaelphobal Tamhlacht at the helm.

The sports pitches in TU Dublin-Tallaght Campus will play host to a soccer blitz from 1.30pm, where budding sports stars can show their skills.

Tallafest takes place this Saturday, June 22, in Tallaght village from midday to 5pm. For further details about events and times visit www.tallafest.ie.
