Tallaght Hospital needs projects funding

LOCAL Fianna Fáil TD John Lahart has written to the Minister for Health seeking a discussion on how funding can be secured for two key projects at Tallaght Hospital.

According to the Dublin South West deputy, the meeting with Health Minister Simon Harris will hopefully address how a planned expansion to the ICU and a new Renal Dialysis project can be progressed to completion.

Deputy Lahart said: “When I met the Chief Executive of Tallaght Hospital, David Slevin in May, he highlighted in particular two new developments which were at various stages of design – a new six-bedded Intensive Care Unit expansion and a new Renal Dialysis project.

“Mr Slevin outlined to me that both of these projects are critical to support the hospital’s clinical services strategy and to meet the growing requirements of the community.

“He also emphasised that these projects are not solely focused on increased capacity but also on enhancing the model of care, with a particular emphasis on home and self-care, in the case of the new Renal development.”

He added: “I understand that funding hasn’t been secured to complete either project at this stage.

“South Dublin County Council recently granted permission for the Renal project.

“I am very anxious to ensure that these two critical projects are advanced to completion. In addition to seeking a meeting with Minister Harris I have asked a number of parliamentary questions about the matter.”
