Tallaght man charged with sexual assault appears in court

A MAN who allegedly touched a young woman’s genital area through her tracksuit bottoms has appeared before Tallaght Court.

The man was represented by his solicitor, Padraig O’Donovan.

Aged 45, with an address in Tallaght, he is charged with sexually assaulting a named female at another address in Tallaght on October 21, 2014.

Sergeant Michael Ahern told Judge Patricia McNamara that the DPP had directed summary disposal.
Judge McNamara asked what was alleged.

Sgt Ahern said it will be alleged that the man was an acquaintance of the injured party’s mother. He said it will be alleged that on October 21, 2014, the accused had been invited back to the woman’s house and the victim, the woman’s daughter, had been asleep in bed when the accused got in bed beside her and touched her genital area through her tracksuit bottoms.

Sgt Ahern said the victim then got out of bed and told her mother. He said the injured party was 20.

Judge McNamara said she would put the case back for two weeks to consider jurisidiction.

She remanded the man on continuing bail for two weeks to consider jurisdiction.
