Tallaght Person of The Year set to take centre stage at Civic

TALLAGHT Community Council (TCC) is marking the 40th anniversary of the community-led awards program, Tallaght Person of the Year, this weekend.

To mark this special milestone anniversary TCC are hosting the Tallaght Person of the Year awards in The Civic theatre.

The event format is different for the anniversary allowing the event to place a greater focus on the stage production element on the night.

This Sunday, TCC are honouring 191 nominees across 9 categories in the awards ceremony.

Each nominee will be recognised and listed in the souvenir awards programme and also honoured from the stage during the ceremony.

“All 191 nominees nominated this year are already winners in their communities.

“Your neighbours and friends recognise and appreciate you.”

Roderick Smyth, Chairperson of TCC 2023/24.

There will be four special performances during the awards event in The Civic from very talented and accomplished Tallaght performers in the areas of dance, choral music, traditional Irish music and popular music.

Three of the performances will be on the main theatre stage, Xquisite Dance, Tallaght Choral Society and “For One Night Only” will entertain the sell out audience this Sunday.

“Thirsty Sessions” a trad music act, the fourth act, will entertain the guests during the arrival reception and again during the interval.

To cap off the awards show, Tallaght comedian Al Porter is the awards ceremony MC for the anniversary show, fresh from a sell out gig in Vicar St.

The awards show will hear from past winners during the evening and will announce the Tallaght Person of the Year 2023.

“All the event production elements are being finalised this week. It has been a very busy 2 months for everyone involved in the awards, but as always, a really positive project to be part of.

“The entertainment for the anniversary show spans a wide range of genres and represents some of the best performers Tallaght has produced.

“We are all really excited to take to the stage now this Sunday.”

Tara De Buitlear, awards marketing manager and TCC volunteer.
