Tallaght’s Al Porter puts supporting Simon on his bucket list!

Renowned funny man and Tallaght native Al Porter is calling on the public to come out and support the Dublin Simon Community this Christmas.

The Panto star was on hand to support the leading homeless and housing charity in their Christmas appeal, as they seek the support of people in everything from signing up for Sing for Simon to shoe box appeals to volunteering on Christmas Day and bucket shaking at charity fundraisers.

Speaking about the Dublin Simon Community Christmas appeal, Al Porter said: “It’s clear to see that Dublin has a homeless crisis, we see it everyday.

“Christmas is a wonderful time for friends and family, but it can also be a time of great stress as people stare into the unknown of no security in life.

“I’d urge people to try and make a real difference this year. It doesn’t take much to help someone who doesn’t have a place of their own to call home.

“By supporting the Dublin Simon Community you can help change the lives of so many people. I think that’s the most important gift you can give someone this year.”

There are loads of ways for people to get involved with the Dublin Simon Community this Christmas, including:

Make a donation You might not realise the power of your donation, however a gift of whatever you can afford this Christmas, no matter how large or small, will help someone’s son or daughter, someone’s sister or brother out of homelessness.

Sing for Simon, which runs throughout December: Gather your friends and family together to form a choir and lend your voice to ending homelessness.

Simon 24-Hour Carolathon: (16-17 December) Join Dublin Simon staff and volunteers from 5.30pm on Grafton Street to sing in aid of those who are facing their darkest moments in life.

Simon House of Light: The three day festival, which runs until Saturday, 10 December, launches on Thursday, 8 December from 5pm at the Powerscourt Townhouse Centre on Dublin’s South William Street. Be entertained by a spectacular light projection show and music every night from the likes of Neon Wolf, Ailbhe Reddy and The Lucan Gospel Choir.

You can also show your support for all of these events by offering to volunteer and bucket shake during these Christmas fundraisers.
