Tallaght teen (13) dies in motocross accident in Derry

A TALLAGHT 13-year-old who was due to start secondary school today tragically died after a motorbike accident in County Derry yesterday.

According to reports, the PSNI received a report of an incident at a motocross track on the Seacoast Road in Limavady around 1.30pm yesterday (August 25).

It is understood that two coastguard helicopters responded to the scene, with paramedics administering CPR at the scene before airlifting the injured boy to Altnagelvin Area Hospital in Derry.

In a statement today, the PSNI confirmed the tragic news that the teenager had passed away from his injuries.

A PSNI spokesman said: “Police are investigating a sudden death on behalf of the coroner in relation to an incident in the Seacoast Road, Limavady yesterday, Thursday, 25 August.”

On its Facebook page, the Coleraine Coastguard Rescue Team posted: “[We] were tasked to prepare a landing site at Bellarena, following a report of a serious bike incident.

“The Coastguard Team assisted NIAS Paramedics and PSNI Officers, already on scene, with emergency first aid for a 13 year old boy.

“A landing site was prepared for the Irish Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue 118 which airlifted the injured teenager to Altnagelvin Hospital.”
