Tamhlacht move into second after win over St Mary’s
TAMHLACHT FC 2nds moved into joint second place in the UCFL Division 3A section after they made the short trip to Tymon North and beat their hosts, St Mary’s FC, 3-1 on Saturday morning, reports John Mooney.
The visitors were good value for the win but they had keeper Sean Brophy to thank for keeping them in front, 1-0 in the opening half, when he made two penalty saves in the space of two minutes to deny the home side a golden opportunity of a goal.
To be honest there were really only three real chances in the opening half, the two spot kick saves and Damola Monsoor putting the visitors in front.
That goal came after only eight minutes, as Jordan Longhi sent over a corner kick from the left hand side of the field and Monsoor rose high at the back post to head home.
Defences were on top for most of the half but that could have changed when the Saints won two spot kicks, however, Brophy first denied Eoin Griffin and, then, Conor Parnell.
It certainly dented the home sides confidence and the visitors were only too happy to exploit that, even if it did take until 15 minutes after the restart.
Cian Dunne was the provider this time, when his corner kick was half cleared and Adam Wallace crashed home the loose ball on the volley.

It looked like it was curtains for the Saints but eventually they got back in the game, after Darragh Farrelly delivered home a beauty of a free kick with just 10 minutes remaining.
It put a spring in their step and they pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but, like most teams that get that burst of energy after they score and chase the game, they left gaps at the back.
Tamhlacht were happy to bide their time and pounce when the opportunity arrived, and two minutes into added time they got their reward when Monsoor pounced again to wrap up the points.
