Templeogue hold their own in basketball finals

TEMPLEOGUE men basketball club picked up where the club’s Ladies left off last weekend with four teams making the DMBB Finals in Oblate Hall last the weekend.

First up were the U18 Boys who tipped off against near neighbours Eanna.

Jacob Fazande had the first three of a total nine 3’s between the two teams in the game.

Eanna held a two-point lead at the end of the first with Daniel Carberry proving difficult for them to contain inside.

Mark Keogh hit a three for Eanna to end the quarter.

The second quarter saw Eanna extend the gap to six points with Victor Lovic finishing inside for Eanna and Jack Wright with nine points for Templeogue in the quarter.

Templeogue under 17’s beat Dublin Lions

Templeogue had the better of the third with Jack Finn and Daniel Carberry leading the scores to level it at the end of the quarter.

The forth quarter was back and forth with the lead changing hands on a number of occasions.

Ultimately the game was decided by a 3 from Mark Keogh followed by two free throws from Nathan Comerford.

Eanna taking the win on a score line of 61-58 Sunday afternoon saw three back-to-back games for Templeogue with the U17’s facing Dublin Lions.

Templeogue U18’s came from behind to beat Éanna

Templeogue were out of the blocks fastest with JJ Ryan and Tom Sinnott causing problems inside.

Harry Scully for Lions kept the scoreboard ticking over from the free throw line, end of quarter saw Templeogue lead 14-9.

Lions shaded the 2nd quarter by two to cut the lead to three at the half.

The 3rd was a similar affair with little between the sides, Gareth Brady was finding his way to the rim for Templeogue as was Lions’ Rokas Liucvaikis.

Templogue U20’s fought to the end to beat Tolka Rovers

The 3rd finished with Templeogue up one. Lions had the better of the 4th and won the game on a 51-61 scoreline.

Templeogue’s U20’s took on Tolka Rovers. Ethan Farrelly was first off the mark for Tolka with Evan O’Toole opening with two 3’s for Templeogue.

This was a fast-paced game from start to finish with Tolka driving to the basket hard in the first quarter.

Jack Wright for Templeogue had 12 of his 28 points in the first with Moustapha Kourouma causing Templeogue problems.

It ended 21-27 at the end of the first.

The second continued with some super shooting from both sides and 3’s continuing to fall for Templeogue’s O’Toole and Wright.

Samuel Badejo was firing on all cylinders for Tolka scoring heavily in all quarters.

At half time Templeogue trailed by 8, 41 to 49. The third quarter saw Templeogue close the gap to 3 which setup for a nail biting finish.

2 free throws from Cassidy and a big 3 from Murray saw Templeogue take a 4 point lead with less than a minute to go.

The game was contested until the final buzzer which saw Templeogue coming out on top 82-78.

The final game of the weekend saw Templeogue Div 1 Men take on UCD Marian.

The teams traded baskets in the first with UCD on top by 2 at the end of the quarter.

Conal Gordan for Templeogue ended the half on 8 with UCD’s Conor Meany on 10 including two 3’s but Templeogue trailed 30-36 at the half.

Templeogue stepped up a gear in the 3rd winning the quarter by 11 and went into the 4th up 5.

Another strong quarter saw Templeogue pull away and the game finished 76-58 to Templeogue.

Templeogue’s Coach Ronan Mc Laughlin spoke after the game “Absolutely delighted to get the win and become back to back Dublin cup winners.

“UCD are a great team and are National Cup champions for a reason.

“We put together our best half of the year when it mattered in the 2nd half to claim victory and I am very proud of the lads.”
