Tenants will be prioritised for transfer based on demand for their adapted property

TENANTS living in adapted social properties looking to surrender their property will be prioritised for a transfer based on the demand of their adapted home, according to the council.

At the recent Tallaght Area Committee Meeting, Cllr Mick Duff raised a question regarding the number of families or individuals in Tallaght on the waiting list who require adapted social housing.

In response, South Dublin County Council outlined that there is “currently 374 applicants approved for medical priority” and of these, 202 have an area preference for south of the Naas Road.

61 of these 202 applicants are wheelchair users, while there is 51 wheelchair users out of 172 applicants with a north of the Naas Road area preference.

Across the board, the most in demand properties are one-beds with 139 while there is 95 applicants awaiting an allocation for a three-bed property.

Since 2019, there has been 269 allocations to applicants with medical priority.

“Approved applicants for Social Housing supports can apply for medical priority by completing an HMD Form 1 which must be signed by 2 medical practitioners,” the council said.

“All HMD Form 1 are assessed by the Councils Independent Medical Referee.

“Our construction and allocations teams, along with the AHB bodies, continue to work on planning for new delivery of homes to meet the existing medical priority housing needs.”

Part of Cllr Duff’s query was in relation to the number of tenants who no longer require an adapted home that are on the transfer list for standard social housing.

“With regard to the query of transfer in adapted properties who no longer require them, we have contacted a number of these tenants to discuss the surrender of their current property,” the council replied.

“We will prioritise these tenants for a transfer based on the demand for their adapted property.”
