“There’s more than one way to skin a cat”- Finn
SHAMROCK Rovers captain Ronan Finn is looking for a result more than performance when it comes to their clash with newly-crowned SSE Airtricity League champions Dundalk in Sunday’s FAI Cup decider in the Aviva Stadium.
While knowing his side will have to be at their best to lift this prize for the first time since 1987, the Hoops skipper is more than happy to win ugly if it comes to that.

“It’s a cup final and it’s all about just getting that result” Finn told The Echo.
“Playing total football is something that can got out the window. Nobody remembers the team who played beautiful football but finished second.
“There’s more than one way to skin a cat, but we have to respect Dundalk. They’re a very good team and it’s going to be a very tough match.
“But for us, it’s about getting the silverware. It’s been far too long since Rovers have won the cup and now it’s an opportunity for these players to write themselves into the history books of a fantastic club and always be remembered.”
Rovers finished runners-up to Dundalk in the league title race this season, with the Lilywhites securing their prize following a narrow 3-2 victory over Stephen Bradley’s outfit in Oriel Park in September.
Finn predicts another tight encounter, but is confident Rovers have the form needed to deny their opponents the chance of completing a domestic treble.
While Rovers were the team who pushed Dundalk the most this season, they will be disappointing at falling short of the title themselves having, at one stage, opened up a 13-point lead on the defending champions early on in the season.
“Every time we play each other, the games are tight. There’s never that much in it” he said.
“We’ve met four times this season and you get the chance to learn that bit more.
“This year we’ve broken club records with the most clean sheets and I think the most wins in a 36-match league campaign, so we’re definitely in good form.
“Every player wants to get in the team so there’s good healthy competition. Naturally everyone wants to be involved in that cup final and so everyone’s fighting for that position on the team.”
