Thousands of people attend action-packed village festival
THE temperature turned up in Clondalkin Village over the weekend as residents enjoyed the Clondalkin Festival amid glorious sunshine.
A wide range of activities and entertainment were on offer with contributions by many local organisations and clubs for the successful event, which ran from Friday to Sunday.
Cllr Francis Timmons, chair and founder of the new festival which he relaunched earlier this year, thanked everyone who “helped organise, supported, took part, volunteered and attended the Clondalkin Festival.”
“Like our Clondalkin St Patricks Day Festival and La Fhéile Bríde/St Brigid’s Day festival, Clondalkin Festival will be an annual event I hope for many years to come. It was a super weekend full of happy memories.”
Among the many activities residents enjoyed were nightly traditional Irish music sessions in Áras Chrónáin, open mic events at Dolcan Cellar and at the Round Tower Visitor Centre, Brú Chrónáin.
Other events included a Clondalkin Camera Club Photography expo, free village history walking tours led by Clann Chrónáin Volunteer Tour Guides, free guided exhibition tours in Brú Chrónáin, magic shows for kids, arts, crafts and live music on the main stage.
Clondalkin Garda Station, who assisted with road closures on Main Street and Tower Road on Sunday, held their annual open day on Saturday, welcoming the community into the station and yard to meet various unit members.
Timmons was “delighted” to have brought back this action packed event to the “Clondalkin cultural calendar.”
“Thousands of people came through at the big Sunday event.
They enjoyed the sunny weather and there was lots to do and see, particularly popular was Anna and Elsa, Mickey and Minnie, the funfair, robot wars, pet farm, the reptiles, facepainting, the vintage cars, and at the main stage fab performances by the Sky Twirlers, Funky Steps, Clondalkin Youth Band and the Recovery Choir.”
Timmons also wanted to thank all of the festival’s sponsors which included South Dublin County Council, Carlston Windows and Doors, Tower Credit Union, PRL, Thorntons and Emerald Project Management Ltd.”
