Thugs throw concrete slabs at school windows

GARDAÍ are investigating two incidents of suspected criminal damage at St Maelruain’s Junior School in Tallaght after concrete slabs were removed from the roof of the school and thrown at the windows.

The incidents at the school on Old Bawn Avenue occurred on Tuesday, January 18 and Thursday, January 20.

On January 18, the slab was removed from the roof and smashed into pieces and thrown at the windows of the internal courtyard, resulting in damage to the window frames. Debris was removed from the area by the staff to ensure the safety of the children coming in to school.

In a statement to The Echo, a garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are investigating the incident of suspected criminal damage which occurred at a school in Old Bawn Avenue Tallaght County Dublin, on Tuesday 18th January 2022 at approximately 18:00pm.

A separate incident happened on Thursday, January 20, when people were throwing blocks from another slab that was removed at the window at the front of the school at around 9pm. When the school’s caretaker approached the school the group that had been throwing the blocks ran away and Gardaí were contacted.

Gardaí said investigations are currently ongoing and no arrests have been made in relation to both incidents.
