By Aideen O’Flaherty
PLANS for the construction of two three-storey apartment blocks on lands at the junction of Grange Road, Nutgrove Avenue and Loreto Terrace in Rathfarnham have been given the green light by South Dublin County Council.
Karl and Stuart Reid lodged an application for planning permission with the council last March, for the development of two apartment blocks to contain two one-bedroom, 28 two-bedroom and two three-bedroom units.

Provisions for private, semi-private and communal open spaces in the form of balconies, terraces and a central landscaped courtyard are included in the application.
It is proposed that the two buildings will be linked at first- and second-floor levels, with a 4,931 sq.m gross floor area, including one basement level of 1,730 sq.m gross floor area.
The applicants are also seeking permission for a new vehicular entrance from Loreto Terrace, a vehicular ramp providing access to basement level, car-parking with 40 spaces at basement level and three spaces on Loreto Terrace, 48 bicycle parking spaces at basement level and tenant storage.
South Dublin County Council granted permission for the development on November 13, with a number of conditions.
These conditions include the submission of a revised site layout plan, showing the footpaths in the public domain that are to be reconstructed, and the applicants shall provide “suitable play opportunities” for the “future child population within the proposed development”.
