Tower’s ladies turn on the style to claim league crown
ROUND Towers Clondalkin secured the LGFA Division 6 league title after a 7-9 to 3-7 victory over Castleknock on Monastery Road, reports James Ffrench.
The change clearly worked, with Hoyte picking up a first half hat trick to put her side 4-05 to 3-01 up at the break.
Towers built on their lead at the restart It wasn’t all plain sailing for Clondalkin through, with the visitors starting well and they could have been a goal up if it wasn’t for Catriona McGrath who made a brilliant save in the first few minutes of the game.
Castleknock got the opening two scores and they maintained a strong defensive shape early on.
The hosts started to get a hold in the game as centre back Aoife Roberston and Captain Suzanne Murray in midfield began driving their team up the pitch with some lung busting runs down the heart of the Castlenock defence.

Towers started to get much more joy after an early tactical change, which saw full forward Natalie Halpin switch with Megan Hoyte at half forward. as they started the better this time around, with Julia O’Flannery adding points, before Muirinn Ward got perhaps the goal of the day to put distance between the sides.
Castlenock found the net three times in the second half, with all three majors a result of well worked counter attacking play.
However, the dagger would come approaching the final quarter as O’Flannery found the net to kill the game and take any real excitement out of the final few minutes.
Clondalkin finish their league season unbeaten and with the Division Six title, and they will look to add even more silverware next Wednesday as they play Fingal in the Division Six cup final.
