Train station should be utlised more
ADAMSTOWN train station should be utilised more by Irish Rail routes, according to Lucan Planning Council (LPC).
Tom Newton, from LPC, says the recent addition of a 5.45am train from Heuston to Galway is welcome, but they would like to see this route stop at Adamstown.
“We would like this train to stop at Adamstown as it is difficult to make Heuston at this early hour,” said Tom.
Newton believes Adamstown train station is “very easy” for local commuters to get to, but “very difficult to get out of.”
The recent opening of Kishoge train station is another welcome addition to the area according to LPC.
“Kishoge is well designed. Now we want to get more people to use rail. Train usage must be designed to suit the users.
There are many people living in the Lucan area from various parts of the country who would use rail if it suited them,” said Mr Newton.
However, Newton cited another problem with the Heuston to Galway train, as it arrives to Athlone 10 minutes late for people to make the connecting train to Westport in Mayo.
“When it reaches Athlone, the train for Westport has already departed a few minutes early as per timetable. This is a problem that must be addressed. We would also like to see some of late trains on the way to Dublin to stop at Adamstown.”
Adamstown station, which first opened in 2007, is on the Dublin to Kildare line.
