
TU Dublin honour sport students with bursary awards
TU Dublin, in partnership with South Dublin County Council announced their Sports Scholarships for 2019/20 at a special ceremony on Friday, reports David Humphries.
The following scholarships were announced - Scholars for Badminton club: Kate Frost (Mount Pleasant BC) and Patrick Martin (South Dublin BC); Scholars for Basketball club: Amie Tunnah (Templeogue BC) and Lynn Tunnah (Templeogue BC).

Scholars for GAA club: Tara Fitzgibbon (Clontarf), Megan Doran (St Anne’s), Emily Browne (St Jude’s), Tammy Quinn (Thomas Davis), Alex O’Neill (Round Tower), Georgia Plowman (Thomas Davis), Amy Murphy (Raheny), Sean Delappe (St Anne’s), Eamon Conroy (Thomas Davis), Aaron Bradshaw (Ballinteer), Chris Sadlier (Thomas Davis), Sean Farrelly (Thomas Davis), Shane O’Leary (St Vincent’s), Hannah O’Neill (Foxrock Cabinteely) and Anthony Archbold (Celbridge).
Scholars for Football Club: Adam Towers (SH Firhouse C), Sean Quinn (Shelbourne), Amos Sholanke (Shelbourne FC), Craig Canty (SH Firhouse C), Jordan Adeyemo (Drogheda), Wiktoria Zurawska, Amy Cahill (Killkenny City), Ola Lawell (Shelbourne FC), Eoin McPhillips (Drogheda United), Cole Omorehiomwan (Shamrock Rovers); Scholars for Volleyball club: Irene Martinez (Tallaght Rockets) and Sophie Doolan.
Scholar for weightlifting club: Alexios Karakatsanis (Capital Strength).
In addition to the scholars being announced, TU Dublin also announced the sporting highlights from the first semester of 2019/20. The badminton club came in third place in the Student Sport National League Final.
The basketball club are top of D2 North.
The men’s football club are top of D1 North (Senior) and first of the D3 Group B (Freshers).
In the Boxing club, are George Bates Senior Elite 63KG Champions 2019/20. The volleyball club have reached the Student Sport Ireland National League quarter final. In Gaelic Football, TU Dublin have enjoyed a successful season so far, competing in the Lagan Cup, Purcell Cup, Fergal Maher Cup and the Cormac McAnallen Cup.
