TUH Heroes: Great opportunity to recognise hospital staff
HAVE you met a hero at Tallaght University Hospital?
This is the question being asked by the local hospital this week as public nominations open for its annual recognition awards.
Now in its fifth year, the Hero Awards recognise and celebrate staff from across all disciplines and departments, and as with previous years there is a special category for the community.
The Patient Experience Award is for patients and their families to nominate members of staff who they have encountered during their journey in Tallaght University Hospital (TUH).
As public nominations open, Lucy Nugent, TUH CEO, said: “This year’s awards will be extra special as they are taking place on the exact date (June 21st) that Tallaght University Hospital first opened its doors, 25 years ago.
“As we reach this big milestone, we need the public’s help to make sure we can call out and celebrate the extraordinary care our staff deliver every day.”
Pick up a form at the Volunteer Coffee Shop
Members of the community can nominate a staff member for the special award either by email, post or filling out a form in reception by the closing date of April 28, 2023.
The hospital has asked that people explain in their email, letter or form why they are nominating a particular staff member as a hospital hero.
Sharon Larkin, Director of HR said: “Staff really appreciate the nominations, and this is a great opportunity for the public to say thank you.
“It may have been a lifesaving operation by a surgeon, outstanding care from a nurse, a porter or a member of our catering team who went above and beyond to make sure the patient got the best possible care.”
As well as the community nominated Patient Experience Award, hospital staff also vote for colleagues internally across a number of categories.

Anyone visiting the hospital in the next few weeks can pick up a form in the hospital Volunteer Shop, and hand it into reception.
