TUH Talks: The importance of Hand Hygiene
It may not sound very exciting or particularly high-tech, but as a doctor, one of the most important things I can do in the hospital to prevent patients from developing infections is practising good “hand hygiene”, that is, cleaning my hands before and after coming into contact with them.
Patients are encouraged that “it’s ok to ask” their doctors or nurses if they have cleaned their hands before examining them, and this is part of keeping everyone safe.
