Unforgettable weekend for Clondalkin Youth Band at festivals

CLONDALKIN Youth Band delivered an “unforgettable” St Patrick’s Festival weekend, according to Tara O’Flaherty.

More than 80 members took to the streets to entertain, sing, and play for thousands across Cashel, Limerick, Dublin, and finally their home community in Clondalkin.

It was a demanding few days, but one that showcased the band’s spirit, talent, and pride at every step.

The celebrations began in Cashel, where the band was invited for a special photo shoot and parade through the historic town.

Their vibrant sound and energy set the tone for the days ahead. On Sunday March 15, they travelled to Limerick to compete in the International Band Championships, performing in cold, wet conditions that would have tested any group.

Despite the weather, the band delivered a standout performance and proudly took home the Best Uniform Award, a meaningful recognition after the huge effort that went into fundraising for their new look.

A highlight of their repertoire this year was a powerful rendition of “Zombie” by The Cranberries, a piece that resonated deeply with audiences on the streets of Limerick.

On St Patrick’s Day in Dublin, the band began early, honoured as the only Irish band in the parade and given the prestigious role of leading the entire event. Meeting and performing alongside some of the finest American marching bands added to the excitement of the day.

Their efforts were rewarded with the Best Youth Band Award, a moment of immense pride for every member.

The weekend concluded fittingly back home, where they closed out the Clondalkin Parade to the cheers of their local community.

There is no rest ahead; next up is a joint free concert with the Canyon Crest High School Orchestra and Choir at the Red Cow Event Centre on April 2.

This will be followed by continued preparations to represent Ireland in the World Music Contest in July.

Congratulations to all involved on a successful weekend.
