Urban Picnic outdoor market opens

AN OUTDOOR market is being trialled at Corkagh Park for the next two months by South Dublin County Council.

Billed as a new outdoor market called Urban Picnic, the initiative started on Saturday, September 4, and will take place each Saturday from 11am to 5pm until the end of October.

It features street food, crafts, and artisan produce, with family entertainment planned as the weeks progress.

Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr Peter Kavanagh, said: “This is great news for Corkagh Park, for Clondalkin, and is something the community has wanted for many years. I want to pay tribute to the councillors past and present who pushed for this market, and to the council officials who made it happen.

“The outdoor market promises to have hot food, coffee, sweets and treats, ice cream, artisan produce, crafts and more, as well as showcasing some up-and-coming food producers supported by the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) South Dublin. I’d call on the local community to come out and support this worthwhile initiative.”

The market will operate in the designated area in the vicinity of the St John’s Road area, located near the playground and visible from the car-park at St John’s entrance. There will be directional posters in place.

The outdoor market will promote local enterprise, using where possible local producers, crafts people, and start-ups. This will include Local Enterprise Office South Dublin start-up clients.

Tom Rooney, Head of Enterprise at LEO South Dublin said the market provides “a fantastic opportunity” for new local food producers to showcase their foods and “further benefit from the feedback from their local consumers attending the market”.

“The LEO is a proud supporter of the growing number of highly innovative and diverse local food businesses in South Dublin – an initiative like Urban Picnic is a really exciting event for Clondalkin and wider local community,” said Mr Rooney.
