Friday night saw Tallaght Rugby Club’s Philip Preston scoop the Tallaght Person of the Year Award, and he made a rousing winning speech to the 400 strong crowd.
Having been nominated in the Sport category, Preston came equipped with his speech in his pocket just is case, and when presented with the top award on the night, he wasted no time in thanking those who supported him along the way.
Preston is the Youth Development Officer with Tallaght RFC, and over the last year he has boosted their youth system through several initiatives, including the ‘Rugby on the green’ programme.
Speaking at the Tallaght Person of the Year Awards Preston said: “To be nominated in any category in the Tallaght Person of the Year is a highlight to me, but to win this is just amazing.
“I think when all the people in Tallaght who go in week in and week out, in hail, rain and sunshine, to do what they do in the community, is an amazing thing and these are the heroes in Tallaght.”
Preston, who was described in the awards programme as an “energetic, vivacious member of Tallaght Rugby Club” was a hugely popular winner, and his speech offered up an insight into his enthusiastic personality.
