VIDEO: The moment a stolen truck was used to damage security cameras in Ballyfermot

Video footage has emerged of the moment a stolen truck was used to damage security cameras in Ballyfermot yesterday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:40pm in the Cherry Orchard area, and Gardai have since launched an investigation.

The video footage shows one person directing the truck as it reverses back into the pole, with one camera coming loose and narrowly missing a passing car after the truck crashes into the pole.

Loud cheers from onlookers can then be heard in the background.

Speaking about the incident today, local Sinn Fein Councillor, Daithi Doolan said: “The action was an attempt to undermine the good work going on in Cherry Orchard. These criminals will not succeed in stopping progress.

“These actions in no way represent local people. Families here are working hard to improve the community for their children and neighbours.

“I would ask that all of us, local political representatives, Gardaí and residents redouble our efforts to ensure this behaviour does not divide or distract from the good work we have been doing.”

In a statement released to Echo.ie by Gardai a spokesperson said: “Gardaí are investigating an incident of criminal damage to a pole at Cherry Orchard, Ballyfermot.

“The incident occurred on the 17th April 2017 at approximately 7.40pm. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballyfermot Garda station on 01-6667200.
