Village Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Tallaght Village

Tallaght Community Council kept the traditional village Christmas tree lighting ceremony alive last Sunday, December 5, at The Dancers garden on Main Street.

The South Dublin County Council tree crew were on hand with a cherry picker to hang the new lights before the ceremony as the tree had grown a few extra feet in the last 12 months.

TCC would like to thank them for their help.

Fr Al and Canon Deverell were on hand to give the blessing of the tree. Current TPOTY Lee Moroney was joined by many of the past TPOTY winner alumni, village residents and TDs Sean Crowe and John Lahart to count down to the switching on of the lights.

The ceremony was shorter than usual due to Covid restrictions, but a special thanks goes to Molloys for providing the tea and Pat McDonnell for providing the PA system and festive music. TCC have plans to ramp up the Christmas decorations on Main Street in 2022.

“We believe Tallaght village is the traditional heart of Tallaght and should be a visual beacon of Christmas spirit and cheer. Our vision is for a much larger lighting display in our village in 2022 and we will be asking local businesses and the council to support this early in the new year,” said Liz Kennedy, voluntary Chair, TCC.
