Walk of Compassion shows solidarity with our community

A WALK to show solidarity with members of the community struggling or experiencing a difficult time is being held in Tallaght Village on Good Friday.
The annual WALK of Compassion shows solidarity with those struggling and also recognises the work of the many services within the village area, which provide care and compassion to members of the community.
Open to all faiths and none, the walk is organised by a committee from a cluster of parishes including St Dominic’s, St Mary’s Priory, St Aengus, St Kevin’s and St Kilian’s – in partnership with St Maelruain’s Church Of Ireland.
People are invited to gather on the grounds of the Priory in Tallaght Village at 6.15pm on Good Friday, April 19, and walk to St Maelruain’s Church of Ireland where reflections begin at 6.30pm.
Members of caring services and others are invited to share a one-minute reflection, thought or prayer, followed by moments of music and silence.
Reflections will be accompanied by visual displays of places around the village where people provide care and compassion to members of the community.
Some of the organisations based in-and-around the village that are taking part include Cheeverstown, Suzanne House, Saoirse, Trustus, Tallaght Cancer Support Group, Focus Ireland, Visit, HOPE, Threshold, SVP, St Dominic’s Community Response and the Irish Foster Care Association.
Gerry Bates, organising committee member, said: “We see it as a way of showing solidarity with members of our community who at this time are going through difficulties and need support from our caring services.
“Many of these services are based in-and-around the village.”
He added; “This is the third year of the Walk of Compassion and the event aims to show solidarity with people suffering or having a hard time within our community.
“The Walk of Compassion is open to all faiths and none, and we invite everyone within the community to join us.”
People are invited to simply turn up on Good Friday at 6.15pm.
