Week-long programme of events celebrated engineering in Ireland
FOR the ninth year in succession, South Dublin County Council and partners Tallaght Stadium, IT Tallaght, PM Group, Vilicom, Xilinx and Rua Red teamed up to celebrate Engineers Week 2017.
The week-long programme of events celebrated the world of engineering in Ireland.
Kicking off on Saturday, March 4, and running until Friday, March 10, the week offered great opportunities for primary and secondary school students to learn about engineering in a fun way with workshops, challenges, quizzes and lectures.
With this year’s theme ‘Engineering for the Future’ organisers set the students of South Dublin County a number of challenges to discover, design, build and code.
On February 15, as part of the build-up to Engineers Week, staff and students from IT Tallaght set the pupils of Scoil Naomh Padraig, Ballyroan, the challenge to make their own hydroponic garden.
Working together, the students envisaged and created their own hydroponic garden – each with their own design and style.
The designs made for a very unique take on sustainable agriculture.
This hydroponic garden challenge is an example of one of the many events that will take place throughout Engineers Week 2017. This event was kindly supported by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), Chopped – The Healthy Food Company, and Ikea.
