What’s Another Year: Keelan X releases his cover of Eurovision hit

Indie musician Keelan X recently released a new animated music video to accompany his cover of Johnny Logan’s Eurovision-winning song ‘What’s Another Year’.

The musician, who divides his time between Kilmainham and London, is a seasoned musician who has played in numerous indie and rock bands but began dabbling in synths during the pandemic.

Keelan X has put his own stamp on his cover of ‘What’s Another Year’, with it being reimagined as an arresting synth-pop creation.

“This is a bit of a departure for me, adapting a Eurovision winning ballad into a slightly more up-tempo, modern pop track,” said Keelan X.

“I always loved the song by Shay Healy and thought it would be interesting to give it a synth-pop makeover. It’s my favourite song ever put forward by Ireland to the Eurovision.

“It’s very musical and I just love the wistful melody line and vocal delivery by Johnny as well as the instrumental sections, beautifully crafted by Bill Whelan of Riverdance fame.”

Working with London-based pop producer Imad Salhi, Keelan X has honoured the original incarnation of the song, whilst injecting a hazy, shimmering electro-pop veneer.

The track is accompanied by a cyber-punk/anime inspired animated video charting the journey of a young boy travelling back in time to The Hague, 1980, to meet Johnny Logan just prior to his iconic Eurovision performance.

The video is out now on YouTube, while ‘What’s Another Year’ by Keelan X is out now on all streaming platforms.
