Witness appeal following death of Tallaght man in suspected assault

GARDAI are continuing to appeal for witnesses in relation to the death of a man following an alleged assault over the weekend.

Named locally as Kevin Walsh, originally from Allenton Green in Tallaght, the 34-year-old man was found injured in an apartment in the Skackleton area of Lucan at around 3am on Sunday.

Gardai confirmed that they were alerted by National Ambulance Service personnel, who brought Mr Walsh to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown for treatment.

However, he passed away on Sunday evening, January 7, at around 6.30pm.

It is understood that Mr Walsh sustained at least one stab wound.

The services of the Office of the State Pathologist were requested by investigating gardai and a post-mortem was due to take place yesterday.

Mr Walsh is known to gardai and has previous convictions, including the manslaughter of a 20-year-old man near the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre in Clondalkin in 2005.

Appeal for information

Gardai are appealing to the public for information in relation to the fatal assault of Mr Walsh over the weekend, which is understood to have occurred sometime between Saturday and the early hours of Sunday morning.

Gardai confirmed that Mr Walsh travelled via taxi from the Allenton area in Tallaght to an address in the Shackleton area of Lucan in the early hours of Sunday, January 7.

Any road users who were travelling in the vicinity of Allenton, Tallaght, and Shackleton, Lucan, at this time and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available.

An incident room has been established at Lucan Garda Station, with the investigation being led by a Senior Investigating Officer.
