Woman threatened to harm herself with a knife unless she got a home
A HOMELESS woman walked into South Dublin County Council’s offices in Tallaght with a knife and threatened to harm herself unless she was housed, Tallaght District Court heard.
Judge Patricia McNamara heard that Kadrieh Mohanazadeh had been on the housing list for a number of years.
Mohanazadeh, aged 26, with an address at Bridgehouse Hostel, Parliament Street, Dublin 2, pleaded guilty to possession of a knife at South Dublin County Council, County Hall, Tallaght, on May 17, 2018.
Sergeant Eithne Madden told Judge McNamara that on May 17 last, Mohanazadeh walked into the Council’s offices in Tallaght and said she was homeless and demanded to be housed.
She said that Mohanazadeh then produced a knife and held it to her wrist and said she would harm herself if she wasn’t housed.
Gardai were called and when they arrived they asked Mohanazadeh to put down the knife.
The woman put the knife to her stomach and was asked again to drop it.
She then dropped the knife and was arrested.
Sgt. Madden said Mohanazadeh had no previous convictions.
Mohanazadeh’s solicitor, Padraig O’Donovan, said his client is homeless and has been on the housing list for a number of years.
He said Mohanazadeh had been living in Ireland for the last 14 years and had become extremely frustrated at being homeless.
Judge Patricia McNamara remanded Mohanazadeh on continuing bail to a date in March for a pre-sentence report.
