World title fight could be in the pipeline for Hyland

THE exciting news that Patrick Hyland will be fighting for a world title in the United States in March is expected to be confirmed this week.
The opportunity would be a massive boost for the Tallaght man who has steadily worked his way back into the reckoning after missing out on the WBA World Featherweight belt back in 2012 when he lost to Javier Fortuna in Las Vegas.
Having been out of the ring for almost of year and half because of contract complications, Hyland returned to competitive action in July of 2014 when he beat Noel Echevarria in New York.
Since then he has chalked up a further three wins, beating Romania’s Oszkar Fiko in the 3 Arena, Manuel de los Reyes in Madison Square Gardens and David Martinez in Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Massachusetts.
While unable to confirm the veracity behind reports of this title fight, Hyland did tell The Echo “this is something I’ve been working towards for so long”
“It’s all or nothing for me. I have nothing to lose and everything to gain
“If I could go over there and bring a world belt home on St Patrick’s week it would be amazing” he added.
Speculation about Hyland’s world title prospects increased after he was rumoured to be withdrawn from the MGM ‘Clash of the Clans’ show that was due to take place this Saturday in the National Stadium before it was cancelled.
The 32-year-old was due to face off against Nicaraguan Reynaldo Cajina at the weekend and his possible withdrawal from the bill would likely facilitate an adjusted training schedule with coach Pascal Collins, geared towards a massive showdown in March.
