The attacker proceeded to punch her in the face a number of times.

Images posted online today show the woman’s injuries, and members of her family and friends have been urging others to be careful when walking in the area.

Her sister said: “Last night my 19-year-old sister was attacked waking home from a friend's house a couple of minutes from her house.

“It happened at 11pm last night near the Fettercairn Luas stop.”

She went on to say: “It was an Irish guy in his mid/late 20s wearing a tracksuit/hoody. She was only a couple of minutes from her house and he walked up to her, punched her twice and ran off.

“It happened so quick that she didn’t get a good look at his face.”

In a statement from Gardai, a spokesperson said: “Gardai in Tallaght are investigating a report of an assault on a woman in her late teens at Katherine Tynan Road, Tallaght on the 17th Oct at approximately 11pm.

“The injured party received a number of blows to her face.”

Gardai went on to say the attacker ran off in the direction of Cookstown Way.
