Zak and the art of sport and its influences comes to GAA screens
A NEW documentary detailing the story of Zak Moradi and which sees him reconnect with his homeland.
Called ‘HOME: The Story of Zak Moradi’, the film details the 33-years-old’s life story, including his family fleeing the war in Iraq when he was 11 and moving to Ireland.
The family settled in Leitrim before moving to Tallaght two years later, with Zak enrolling in Old Bawn Community School and taking to the pitch with Thomas Davis GAA Club as a hurler.
The documentary, which premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh earlier this month, sees Zak return to Kurdistan and visit refugee camps, and learn more about the area and its history.
One of the dominant themes that leads the documentary is sport, and the transformative effect it can have – Zak learned first-hand through his own lived experience.
The documentary was solely funded by The One Foundation, produced by Rockshot Studios and directed by Trevor Whelan.
