The 15-year-old, who has an address in Rathfarnham pleaded guilty to assaulting his mother at their home on June 28, 2016.

He appeared in court accompanied by his mother.

Garda Jonathan Divilly told the court that at 2pm on the above date, the boy’s mother had been carrying out jobs at home and noticed that her keys were missing.

He said she searched for the keys in the house and could not find them. Garda Divilly said she then asked her son who was sitting downstairs if he knew where her keys were. He said the boy pushed his mother against the wall and grabbed her by the throat.

Garda Divilly said the mother later reported the incident to the gardai.

The boy’s solicitor, Michael Hennessy, asked the judge to put the case back for a probation report.  Judge Lindsay said that as the boy had no previous he would not be considering detention.

Mr Hennessy said the boy’s mother was a retired single parent.

Judge Lindsay told the boy: “That kind of behaviour is unacceptable. Do you want to go into detention. That is what you are facing if you keep this up”.

He remanded the teenager for a month for a probation report and for sentencing.
