A LOCAL 16-year-old girl is cutting her hair to raise money for LauraLynn Children’s Hospice.

Grace Ellis-Hegarty from Clondalkin is making the brave decision to chop off her hair to raise funds for the LauraLynn Children’s Hospice on Sunday, April 17.

On her GoFundMe page, Grace said: “I’ve always admired people who cut their hair and donated it. So over lockdown my hair got so long from not being able to get it cut (like most of us) and have finally built up the courage to cut it.”

With a target of €1,500, Grace has raised over €1,200 for the charity so far.

All of the money raised will be donated to LauraLynn, and the hair will be donated to the Rapunzel Foundation, which is a charity that works to improve the lives of those living with hair loss.

Grace’s mother Cathy says her daughter “amazes her” everyday by the things she does.

“She’s always had a great heart and such a kind-hearted girl, and she said to me one day a couple of weeks ago, ‘I am going to cut my hair off for charity’, and I said that’s ok, how much are you going to cut off and she said, ‘14 inches’.

“I have balloons and everything and the LauraLynn T-shirts and I am going to get cupcakes just to mark the day.

“She is now just saying it will grow back – that’s her attitude and she is right – her hair has grown so much the past couple of months that it will fly back down.”
