PLANS for the construction of a 196-unit residential development on Second Avenue in Cookstown Industrial Estate will be the subject of an oral hearing by An Bord Pleanála (ABP) in the coming months.

The developer, Pyrmont Property Developments Limited, lodged a fast-track planning application for a 196-unit residential development on Second Avenue in Cookstown Industrial Estate last February.

A decision was due on the application on Tuesday, and when contacted by The Echo a spokesperson for ABP confirmed that the plans will be the subject of an oral hearing, however a date has not yet been confirmed.

Pyrmont Property Developments Limited previously secured planning permission for the construction of 107 apartments at the same location last August.

In its current application, the applicant sought permission for the demolition of an existing 2,590 sq. m industrial building and the construction of the apartment units, to form a ‘build to rent’ housing development.

It is proposed that the development will contain 45 studio units, 48 one-bed units, eight two-bed (three-person) and 95 two-bed (four-person) units, all to be housed in four six- to nine-storey blocks over basement.

ABP typically only hold an oral hearing if the proposed plans are particularly complex, or if there are significant national or local issues involved.
