Over 1,000 take part in Family Fun Day for Chluain Dolcain

OVER 1,000 turned up last Saturday at Gaelscoil Chluain Dolcain in Clondalkin for its Family Fun Day Fundraiser. The school currently has 443 pupils and this September work will start on Ireland’s first Gaelscoil Campus which will hold Gaelscoil Chluain Dolcain Gael Scoil na Camóige and the follow-on secondary school Colaiste Chilliain.
The school’s Principal Séan MacCárthaigh was very happy with the turn-out.

He said: “We had over 1,000 turn up on Saturday for the Family Fun Day Fundraiser. It really was a great success and we raised a substantial amount which will go towards the school. We had a pet farm, games for children, toss the horseshoe and a few other attractions. There was a great turn-out.”

She told The Echo: “For the last few years our principal Múinteoir Séan has been working extremely hard on a fantastic new development that is now finally due to begin this year. This new development will be a great addition to our community, in fact it will be the only one of its kind in Ireland. Clondalkin will proudly have its first Gaelscoil Campus. This campus will hold three of our Irish schools, Gael Scoil Chluain Dolcain, Gael Scoil na Camóige and of course the follow-on secondary school Coláiste Chilliain.”
Ms Sherwin added: “It was great to see so many people out to support our school. We fall short on much-needed funds for a few little extras for our children. Our Sports Halla and facilities need more funding. Our children have no sports facilities whatsoever and exercise plays a very important role in children’s physical and mental health.”
She said that the pet farm was a particular hit with everybody.
Ms Sherwin added; “ There were two Alpacas, they were gorgeous. They were so lovely. The event was a great success. I would like to thank our local councillor Francis Timmons. He was a great help and came to our aid with several ideas and contacts.”
