1999: Dolly mixtures, ironing your hair, lipliner, hooped earrings and more

Local comedian Emma Doran is back with her latest hilarious video, and this time it’s the year 1999 that features, with a look back to a time when ironing your hair was part of every ‘going-out’ ritual.

Those who grew up during, let’s face it, the greatest time to be a teenager, will instantly recognise the hooped earrings, the landline phone, and the weekly act of lying about having a sleepover.

Another notable inclusion is the dreaded nose piercing that never seemed to heal, and was only outdone by the horrific belly-button ring that left most with a crusty, oozing infection.

Also featured is the staple drink of the 90’s, the dolly-mixture, which usually contained anything from the drinks press in your parent’s house.

That could be vodka or whiskey, or gin or rum, mixed with a drop of cadet lemonade, and maybe a little sup of that stuff your dad brought home from holidays in Santa Ponsa.

The love for lipliner is another throw back to a time when O’Neills tracksuit bottoms were the absolute fashion essential, while we just love the inclusion of several pieces of gold jewellery, which we all know most likely came from Argos catalogue.
